The restaurant was in a busy location but the management was not always able to be there.
Stock audits were highlighting shortages in both food and drink, which were difficult to
account for and although the restaurant and bar were always busy the business, was struggling
to pay its way. The owner heard of the benefits of linking CCTV to the electronic point of
sale system and arranged for cameras to be installed on two tills and their working areas as
well as the wine and food stores.
The digital recording system recommended by Geller Business Machines, the supplier of the cash
registers, provided an image of the transaction area, the cash drawer together with a floating
till roll detailing the theoretical transaction.
The nine-camera system could be viewed locally at the restaurant and also remotely through the
Internet. The owner set up alerts for certain transactions so that he automatically received a
text message on his mobile phone immediately a suspicious transaction occurred. He then viewed
the live transactions or the recorded suspicious event on his mobile phone or through his computer
simply by opening up Internet Explorer and putting in his user name and password.
The installed system pay back was found to be less than five months. The evidential qualityof the
images proved a highly effective deterrent and the business now has increased sales and profitability.
Access Ability offer both supply and support services for the EPOS linked CCTV systems.
