Latham House Medical Practice is the largest single group practice in the UK and deals with 34,500 patients in and around Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire.
Access Ability was asked by Jeff Booker, the IT manager, to review the building security and recommend a suitable access control and CCTV solution.
The solution should fully reflect due care of the staff.
A proximity access control system was installed for the 80 staff covering doors to 10 restricted areas including the prescription room. Four dome cameras
were located at the main entrance and reception areas to both deter and record any incidents.
At first the doctors were impatient with the access control system and pushed on the doors before the electric release had time to actuate so preventing access.
A change of electric release solved the 'doctor in a hurry' issue.
At the time of writing 2 years have passed since the systems were installed and Jeff is delighted with the reduced number of incidents and the staff are more
relaxed in the knowledge that they are working in a monitored secure area with speedy entry/exit. The next expansion phase is to include surveillance on the car park.
Jeff is also considering upgrading the CCTV system to incorporate video motion detection that will assist even further with the fast retrieval of events from the digital archive.
